As Toyota’s only battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the bZ4X has big shoes to fill — and thankfully, its 2024 incarnation delivers.

Only in its second model year, the 2024 bZ4X brings charging improvements and more convenience features to the SUV. Plus, those who buy or lease the bZ4X get a year of free charging at a popular national network!

Let’s take a look at what’s new.

Peppy performance

With the bZ4X, you can expect a comfortable and performance-focused drive.

A great car starts with a great platform. The bZ4X is built on Toyota’s first BEV-dedicated e-TNGA platform, which is structured around the lithium-ion battery pack placed under the floor. The cross-framed architecture provides a lower center of gravity, dynamic suspension, and high strength, making for a smooth yet powerful drive.

And forget what you know about the low power traditionally associated with electric vehicles. Thanks to electric-delivered instant torque, the 2024 bZ4X boasts 201 hp when in front-wheel drive (FWD) and 214 when in all-wheel drive (AWD)!

While in AWD, bZ4X also features X-MODE, which has two features: Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. In both cases, the vehicle will brake spinning wheels to help the tires better grip the tricky surface. X-MODE can also employ Downhill Assist Control, which keeps the car at a constant speed so you can concentrate on steering, and Grip-Control, which also lets you focus on steering by helping the bZ4X safely turn corners using power modulation.

Improved charging

With the bZ4X’s new charger, you have the freedom to choose between Level One, Level Two and Level 3 charging.
As a BEV, charging is essential to the bZ4X — which is why you’ll be glad to note that the 2024 model has added some improvements.

The bZ4X now has a standard dual-voltage charging cable capable of Level One and Level Two charging, alongside Level Three charging. Level One takes about 40 or 50 hours to charge to 80%, while Level Two takes about 9 hours and Level Three takes less than an hour. The estimated charge time to 80% can now also be seen on the vehicle’s digital Multi-Information Display screen.

Toyota engineers have also made a few design changes so that the bZ4X can charge faster in cold temperatures. Those enhancements include an improved battery thermal system and a new water-to-water heat exchanger and heating adjustment valve. These features heat the battery, allowing for a faster charge.

New bZ4X owners can roll the cost of a ChargePoint® Home Flex Level 2 charger into their vehicle purchase or lease. This ENERGY STAR® certified charger can be installed indoors or outdoors and has a 23-foot charging cable. Plus, you’ll also get one year of free charging on the EVgo charging network, which has more than 900 locations in 35 states. You can use the Toyota App to sign up for the offer and find your nearest station.

And best yet, the bZ4X’s mileage is comparable to that of a gas vehicle. The XLE grade can get up to 252 miles while in FWD, while the Limited grade reaches 236.

When you buy or lease a bZ4X, you’re getting an excellent vehicle inside and out.

Designed to be “hi-tech and emotional,” the 2024 bZ4X has a sleek and flowing profile, featuring a low hood height for better driver visibility in the front and a ducktail spoiler for aerodynamic performance in the back. But that grace is also paired with notes of strength, including a front hammerhead design and emphasized corners. Overall, the bZ4X’s look paints the picture of an elegant yet powerful vehicle.

The 2024 bZ4X comes in several colors, such as black, Heavy Metal, Supersonic Red, Elemental Silver Metallic, and Windchill Pearl. On the Limited grade, you can also combine one of those colors with a black roof for a sporty, two-tone look.

The bZ4X’s excellence continues into the interior, which has soundproofing glass and other noise-reduction features to cut down on the clamor of traffic. The standard fixed panoramic roof also gives the cabin a sense of openness, although it can be shielded with a power sunshade.

The Softex® seats can be trimmed in either black or gray, depending on your grade. And with the XLE, the driver gets an 8-way power adjustable seat, as well as a power rear liftgate. On the Limited Grade, Advanced Park is also now standard, which helps the driver with parallel or perpendicular parking.

And in the middle of the dash is the 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia System, which can be paired with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The system is also your portal to the subscription-based Connected Services suite, which gives you access to programs that let you control your vehicle remotely, better navigate traffic, keep an eye on your maintenance needs, and more.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0

The “bZ” in bZ4X stands for “beyond zero,” referencing Toyota’s goal to reduce carbon emissions.
The bZ4X offers Toyota’s latest technology, and that extends to its safety features.

The bZ4X has Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0, the suite’s most recent version. TSS 3.0 uses cameras dotted all over the vehicle to “see” the road and help keep you safe behind the scenes through several automated systems.

The newest of those systems includes Proactive Driving Assist, which helps the driver control braking and steering when dealing with other cars, pedestrians, large road curves and more. Several of the pre-existing systems were also updated with better detection capabilities.

Be sure to check the bZ4X out at your local Toyota dealership.
